Kāla
Five thousand years of Indian art, walked through one lit vitrine at a time.
Kāla means time. Kalā means art. This is where they meet.
A museum without walls: each era is a hall, each object a lit case. Every artifact opens into a full-resolution photograph you can zoom into, and four of them into real 3D museum scans.

Walk
Scroll and the timeline slides sideways through ten eras. The ruler at the bottom shows where you are in time; tap an era numeral to jump.

Open a case
Click any artifact to open its vitrine: history, materials, where it lives today and what to look for. Use ← → to move between objects.

Look closer
Scroll or pinch to zoom into photographs at full resolution. Objects marked 3D can be rotated as museum scans.

- To create an engaging, educational tool that visually represents the history of Indian art, with clickable replicas of key artifacts that give detailed information and historical context.
- What's inside
- 10 eras from c. 3300 BCE to 1950 CE · 28 artifacts spanning sculpture, painting, architecture, bronze and seals · deep-zoom photographs of 2K+ resolution · 4 rotatable 3D scans from the Cleveland Museum of Art, Minneapolis Institute of Art, the British Museum and the Didarganj Yakshi scan.
- Tools
- Instead of a template tool such as TimelineJS or Tiki-Toki, the timeline is custom-built in HTML, CSS and JavaScript (GSAP for motion, Lenis for smooth scrolling), with Sketchfab embeds for the 3D replicas.

- Photographs from Wikimedia Commons under open licences, credited on each object and on the credits page. Text written by the team from museum records and standard art-history references.
